Steel mesh reinforces one plane. Fiber reinforces all of the concrete
Mesh lies in a single plane and, under workers' feet, often ends up at the bottom of the slab. Fibers spread throughout the entire volume, from the base to the surface, and stitch microcracks together so they cannot grow.
Micro fiber protects fresh concrete from shrinkage in the first hours. Macro fiber carries loads in hardened concrete and replaces steel mesh in floors and slabs on grade.
Fiber vs steel mesh: comparison- No tying and placing of steel mesh
- Pour right away, even with a laser screed
- No corrosion near the surface
- Fewer shrinkage cracks
- Bags of a few kilograms instead of tons of steel
Fiber: a method proven over millennia
Ancient builders added straw to clay bricks, and in Europe lime plaster was mixed with horsehair for centuries. Glass fiber reinforced concrete, polypropylene fiber and basalt fiber appeared in the 1960s–70s.
Today fiber-reinforced concrete is covered by international standards: ACI 544 since 1973 and the European standard EN 14889-2.

What is concrete fiber?
Fibers are short strands of polypropylene, glass, basalt or steel that are added to concrete, screed or mortar. They spread throughout the mix, reduce shrinkage cracks and, in the case of macro fiber, reinforce hardened concrete.
Can fiber replace steel mesh in a floor?
Yes. In slabs on grade and industrial floors, structural macro fiber (ReinStrong or ReinFlex) replaces steel mesh when the dosage is confirmed by design calculations. In load-bearing structures (suspended slabs, beams, columns), fiber complements the main rebar but does not replace it.
How much fiber should be added per 1 m³ of concrete?
ReinLite, ReinGlass and ReinBasalt micro fibers for concrete and screeds usually need 0.6 to 1.5 kg/m³, and ReinStrong and ReinFlex macro fibers 1.8 to 8 kg/m³ depending on the load. The ReinStrong DoP dose, which provides fR1 ≥ 1.5 MPa and fR4 ≥ 1.0 MPa, is 4.5 kg/m³. We will match the exact dosage to your project.
What is the difference between micro fiber and macro fiber?
Micro fiber protects fresh concrete from shrinkage cracks in the first hours after placing. Macro fiber works in hardened concrete: it holds cracks under load and replaces steel mesh.
Who makes Reinforce fiber?
Reinforce Global is a European manufacturer of concrete fibers. We make the fiber at our own production facility, sell without middlemen and export to 15 EU countries.
What certifications do your fibers have?
Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 (certificate No. UA.QM.ASCB.057.01-26) for polypropylene and glass fiber, and our products carry CE marking. EN 14889-2 certification of our polypropylene fibers is in progress at TSÚS in Bratislava, where our ReinStrong and ReinFlex macro fibers were tested to EN 14651 (CMOD test) in summer 2026. We send technical data sheets on request.
Which countries do you export to?
We export to 15 EU countries. Our key markets include Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Denmark and France. Send us a request, and we will confirm the lead time and delivery cost for your country.
Are you looking for distributors in the EU?
Yes. We are looking for distributor partners in the EU: building-materials distributors, suppliers to concrete plants and dry-mix producers. We will help you choose the right fiber range and assist with orders and delivery to your country.
